Due to popular demand...
Now that it has begun (I'm thinking Shang Tsung saying that here) I'd like to give everyone their yearly (sometimes bi-annual) reminder that we (except for those brave souls in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Eastern Time Zone portion of the State of Indiana, and most of Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona) have entered into Daylight Saving Time. Please note the lack of an "S" at the end of "Saving"...please keep it that way.

I'm petitioning GShrubby to change it to "Savings" just because..

I mean after all, the purpose of America is to make the world safe for stupid people.

if the world becomes safe for stupid people then we gonna have to colonize another planet quick like....and move there.

The stupid will follow us though..

They're incredibly persistant.

Man it gets me all hot when you get riled up about something.
Brian Beckseether on April 5th, 2005 12:06 am (UTC)
now if I could just manage to do that in the parking lot.
Robinrgansle on April 5th, 2005 12:16 am (UTC)
I'm not sure that would have worked...I mean I still have some standards. A couple anyway. Ahh who am I kidding.

Aeryn looked exceptionally cute in those pics from Gen :) Can't believe all that hair! on YOUR kid!
Brian Beckseether on April 5th, 2005 12:26 am (UTC)
People keep telling us that we should get her hair cut...and keep telling them "Hell no!" If people are asking us "Is it a boy or a girl" when she's laying there in all pink than maybe they'll get the hint when she's got longer hair...then again, there may be no help for those people.
Robinrgansle on April 5th, 2005 12:29 am (UTC)
You'll never please those people so it doesn't matter. Do what you want. I'd say if it's in her eyes and bugging you but she won't leave a little barrette in, then cut it. Then she can grow a little mullet :)

and then we can get her hooked on Billy Ray Cyrus!!

Genevieve and I were talking about this earlier today, as I said it your way and she said you would be proud. Subsequently, I looked it up on dictionary.com and it says that either is correct. But whether or not it has an S, it should be hyphenated.
Brian Beckseether on April 5th, 2005 03:06 am (UTC)
I think Dictionary.com should stop claiming to be a dictionary. ;)

I find it odd that a search at Onelook.com comes back with 18 results, but only 5 of them are without the hyphen....especially considering it is almost never seen that way in type. However, 2 of the sources that "get it right" are Merriam-Webster and Wikipedia. (Also interesting to note that the Wikipedia entries for Daylight Savings Time and Daylight-Saving Time redirect to Daylight saving time.

Additional usage can be found here, here, here and here.

Why am I not surprised that Microsoft not only got it wrong but was inconsistent within the article!
Nibornibor on April 5th, 2005 03:48 pm (UTC)
Actually, they were pretty consistently wrong in the article...the only place they got it right was when referring to a menu option by name, and they used quotes around it...clearly whoever wrote the article didn't know better, but when the software menu was written, it was done right.

What if I'm pluralizing it, though? Is it them Daylight Saving Times, or Daylight Savings Time, or Daylights Saving Time? Oh, to be in another language where we'd just pluralize everything...Daylights Savings Times.
Brian Beckseether on April 5th, 2005 11:00 pm (UTC)
why, why, why on earth would you want to pluralize it? after all, there is only one daylight saving time so there would never be an instance where you would be referring to multiple daylight saving times...er, except that I just did. oh hell, I don't know.
